Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy
Intense Pulsed Light therapy that targets sun spots, redness, broken capillaries, and uneven pigmentation. IPL evens out your complexion and restores a youthful, even-toned glow with minimal downtime.
What It Is
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial is a light-based treatment that targets pigmentation, redness, and vascular concerns to reveal clearer, more even-toned skin. Unlike traditional lasers that emit a single wavelength, IPL uses a broad spectrum of light that addresses multiple concerns at once: sun spots, age spots, freckles, broken capillaries, redness from rosacea, and overall complexion irregularities. Benefits include a brighter, more uniform skin tone, reduction of brown and red discoloration, smoother texture, and a youthful, refreshed appearance. IPL is ideal for the face, neck, chest, and hands.
How It Works
Your provider will cleanse the treatment area and apply a numbing gel. You'll wear protective eyewear during treatment. The IPL handpiece is passed over your skin, delivering pulses of light that feel like a quick rubber band snap. Treatment takes 20–45 minutes depending on the area. Immediately afterward, dark spots may appear darker, this is the pigment coming to the surface, and they'll naturally flake off within 1–2 weeks. Redness and swelling typically subside within hours. Clients may need 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart for optimal results, with annual maintenance treatments to sustain benefits.
Ideal Candidate
IPL is ideal for adults with sun damage, age spots, freckles, redness, broken capillaries, mild rosacea, or overall uneven complexion. It works best on lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III). IPL can cause discoloration on darker skin tones, so we'll evaluate your skin type carefully. IPL is not recommended for clients who are sunburned, have recent intense sun exposure, on photosensitizing medications, with active cold sores, or who've used Accutane within the past 6 months.
Aftercare & Recovery
Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30+ religiously; sun exposure post-treatment can cause hyperpigmentation. Don't pick at darkened spots; let them flake off naturally over 1–2 weeks. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for 48 hours. Skip retinoids, acids, and exfoliants for 5–7 days. Use gentle, hydrating skincare. Mild redness and warmth for a day or two is normal. Schedule treatments at least 4 weeks apart for safe, effective results.

Common questions
- How quickly will I see results?
You'll notice darkened spots within hours, which flake off within 1–2 weeks revealing clearer skin. Final results from a treatment series are visible after 2–3 months.
- How many treatments do I need?
Most clients need 3–5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart for optimal results.
- Does IPL hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick rubber band snap. It's well-tolerated, especially with our cooling system.
- Can I get IPL if I'm tanned?
We cannot perform IPL if you are sunburned or have recent intense sun exposure. You can have IPL if you are tan, but we will do a thorough examination before moving forward to ensure safety and great outcomes.
- Is IPL safe for all skin tones?
IPL is safest and most effective on lighter skin tones. We'll assess your skin type during consultation and recommend alternatives if IPL isn't right for you.
