Planning and Paying for Treatment: Financing, Gift Cards, and Memberships

By Tanna Donalson, PA-COctober 14, 20267 min read

Most aesthetic results come from a sequence of visits, not a single purchase, so the plan comes first and the cost follows from it. Once you know the plan, the money question usually comes down to three options: a membership, a gift card, or financing through a company like CareCredit or Cherry.

Most patients ask detailed questions about needles and downtime, then go quiet when the subject turns to cost.

Why does a consultation come before a price?

A price only means something once you know what you are buying. How much product you need, how many sessions, and whether a treatment suits you at all are clinical decisions, made by looking at your face and your history, not by reading a menu. Two people can ask for the same thing and leave with different plans.

What a first visit looks like covers the consultation, and what drives lip filler cost in Denver works through one treatment line by line.

What is a med spa membership for?

A membership is a commitment structure. It suits someone already on a repeating schedule: neurotoxin a few times a year, a skincare routine, a series booked across months. Spreading that across monthly payments suits some budgets better than meeting it in lumps.

It is a poor fit before a consultation, when nobody has recommended your cadence yet.

Is a gift card a good gift for a med spa treatment?

It depends on what the card is for. A card for a named treatment is hard to give well, because you are choosing a medical procedure for someone else before a provider has assessed them. They may not be a candidate, or they may hear it as a comment on their face.

A gift card toward a consultation is a different thing. It says: I will cover this, you decide what it is for, and the clinical decision stays with the person receiving it.

Under federal rules, funds on a gift certificate or store gift card cannot expire earlier than five years from issue or the last load, with exclusions that include paper-only certificates. Terms differ by practice, so ask the clinic what theirs covers.

If a card is not the right answer, medical-grade skincare needs no consultation. Redbud carries SkinMedica and PCASkin.

How does CareCredit work, and what is deferred interest?

CareCredit is a credit card, not a payment plan from the clinic. It is issued by Synchrony Bank, you apply to the bank rather than to us, and it is subject to credit approval. Redbud accepts it.

CareCredit's own advertising disclosure describes deferred-interest offers of 6, 12, 18 and 24 months on qualifying purchases of $200 or more, and says the 6-month option is available at all providers while the longer terms are not.

Deferred interest is not zero interest. In CareCredit's own words, no interest is charged on the promotional balance if you pay it off in full within the promotional period, and if you do not, interest is charged on that balance from the purchase date. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau puts it as owing interest on the full purchase amount, not just the balance you have left.

CareCredit's disclosure also says the required minimum monthly payments may or may not pay off the promotional balance before the period ends, and, effective May 30, 2024, lists a purchase APR, the yearly interest rate, of 32.99 percent for new accounts.

In its 2023 report on medical credit cards, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau found that between 2018 and 2020, deferred interest was assessed on 20 percent of healthcare purchases.

How is Cherry different?

Cherry is a payment plan rather than a card. Cherry describes itself as a financial technology platform, says it is not the lender, and says its loans are made by Lead Bank, Member FDIC.

Applying involves a soft credit check, which Cherry says does not impact your credit score. A down payment is due at checkout and does not count toward the plan. Cherry publishes an APR range of 0 percent to 35.99 percent, terms of 1 to 60 months, and amounts from $35 to $65,000.

Cherry's own footnote says 0 percent APR and other promotional rates are subject to eligibility, and that eligibility for financing is not guaranteed. A late fee may apply if a payment is not received in full within 15 days of its due date, and policies vary by state.

What should you ask before you sign anything?

What is my APR, and is it fixed for the whole term? Is this a deferred-interest promotion or a true 0 percent rate? What exact date does the promotional period end? What monthly payment clears the balance by that date, rather than the minimum payment? And what happens if I am late?

What to expect at Redbud

A plan at Redbud starts with looking at you, not with a menu. Your first visit is a consultation with a licensed medical provider, it is complimentary, and it can end with the recommendation to do less, or nothing yet. A plan can also be staged, one phase now and the next in spring.

Once the plan is settled we talk through what it costs, and if spreading it out helps, we point you at the options and let you read the terms. For weight loss, hormone therapy and treatment planning, that can happen as a virtual consultation.

If the budget is the part holding you up, say so out loud in the consultation. It changes what we recommend. If you are still deciding who to trust, how to choose a medical spa in Denver is the checklist we give a friend, and medical spa versus day spa explains where Colorado draws the legal line.

Frequently asked questions

Is a membership worth it if I only come in once or twice a year?

A membership is built around a repeating schedule, so at one or two visits a year you would be paying monthly for a cadence you do not have.

Does applying for financing affect my credit score?

It depends on the product. Cherry says applying involves a soft credit check that does not impact your credit score. CareCredit is a credit card application to Synchrony Bank, so ask what kind of inquiry it runs.

What happens if I do not pay off a deferred-interest balance in time?

Interest is charged on the promotional balance from the original purchase date, not from the day the promotion ended. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau describes this as owing interest on the full purchase amount rather than only on what is left.

If you want a straight answer about what your plan would involve, book a consultation or get in touch. You will leave with a plan and a number, no pressure.

This article is for general education and is not medical, financial, or legal advice. CareCredit and Cherry are third-party products, not Redbud programs. Approval, rates and terms are set by the lender and subject to credit approval, and Redbud cannot promise any of them. These terms came from each company's own published disclosures in October 2026 and can change, so read your own offer before you accept it. Results vary. Talk with a licensed medical provider about whether a treatment is right for you.
