You Have Questions?
We Have Answers.
In the world of skincare, it seems there's always new information hitting the scene, and it can be hard to keep it all straight. Between procedures, products, and overall health, there are a lot of questions to be asked. Luckily, we're here to answer them.
Who is the ideal candidate for skin care procedures?
Ideally, the best candidate for a skincare procedure would be someone who is in good health, a non-smoker, and doesn't have overly sensitive skin or allergies to medications. However, with the variety of procedures available in this day and age, anyone who is interested in having cosmetic work done can find the procedure that is right for them and their needs.
Can men get plastic surgery?
Absolutely. In the U.S. alone, more than 1 million men chose to have a cosmetic procedure (plastic surgery or other) performed, and that number is only growing. After all, men deserve to feel beautiful in their own skin as much as women.
Do skincare procedures require a lot of recovery time?
Recovery time for any given procedure will depend on its degree of invasiveness. For a surgical procedure such as a brazillian butt lift or surgical facelift, the recovery time may be several weeks, whereas a chemical peel to treat wrinkles, or Sculptra Butt lift injections could have you up and moving the very same day. In short, procedures come in a variety of intensities to make sure that you won't have to sacrifice any more of your schedule than you are comfortable with.
Do I have to have surgery in order to see results?
Not at all. For those who aren't comfortable with the idea of a full-out cosmetic surgery, there are a number of non invasive treatments for wrinkles, skin discoloration, and fat removal. Lasers, IPL (intense pulsed light therapy), and injections are just a small handful of quick and easy procedures which can get you results quickly without going under.
And, even aside from minimally invasive outpatient procedures, developments in the skin care industry mean that an increasing number of skin ailments are able to be treated with products in the comfort of your own home. There are creams, serums, and pills well equipped combat signs of aging, as well as loose skin, and even unwanted fat.
Am I too old for a procedure?
The short answer: no. Plastic surgery (among the most invasive cosmetic procedures) has been deemed safe for patients 65 and up. While invasive surgeries should not be taken lightly, as long as the individual is in good health, then age should be the last thing which stops you from regaining the skin of your youth.
What is a serum?
While serum is definitely a buzzword in the beauty community, what exactly is this stuff that I'm putting on my face?
In short, serum is a way to fast track to your face all of the nutrients your skin needs. It is usually a liquid between the consistency of a face oil and a moisturizer. Serums help provide intense-longer lasting hydration for the skin as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles and even out skin tone.
What is the single best product to invest in?
Unfortunately, there is no magical fix-all in skincare. Every face is different and everyone's skin will have different needs and sensitivities. Some people will live and die by their under-eye cream, and some can't leave home without their tinted moisturizer. As far as dermatologists are concerned, the most important product for your face is sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen regularly can reduce your chances of developing skin cancer by as much as 50%. So be sure to lather up every time you leave your house.
How long do anti-aging creams take to work?
Again, the answer to this question depends on the quality of product you're using. For fine lines, a well crafted moisturizer can show drastic results in a matter of days, but for more intense wrinkles, many creams won't show dramatic changes for about the first six weeks.
Are cosmetic procedures only for my face?
While the majority of cosmetic procedures are focused on the skin of the face, many procedures can (and are.) used on other parts of the body. If a treatment is designed to reduce wrinkles and age spots, many doctors will prescribe this treatment for the hands as well as the face. There are a number of collagen injections and stimulants which are beneficial to lips, as well as the face and neck.
Additionally, many cosmetic procedures are designed for use all over the body. From sculpting the butt to toning the thighs and abdomen, there are cosmetic procedures to fit whatever problem you're looking to treat.
